Sucha Soorma – Lyrics Meaning in English – Kulwinder Billa

This folk song is depiction of the ruin of “Family Honour” and alleged extra marital affair between Sucha Singh’s sister-in-law, Balveero, and his best friend, Ghukkar. Balveero, a widower of her first husband, was married to Sucha Singh’s elder brother, Narayan Singh. Whereas Ghukkar is a village landlord and Sucha Singh’s best friend. Ghukkar got attracted to Sucha Singh’s sister-in-law, Balveero but found Sucha hurdle of his way. So, to get rid of him, he planned with Sucha to get recruited in army. Sucha got recruited but because of his dirty desires for Balveero, Ghukkar failed. When Narayan got to know about the Balveeros and Ghukkar’s extra marital affair, he tried to stop her, but she didn’t. So, Narayan wrote a letter to his younger brother telling him about the tragic that was happening at his back and summoned him. On returning back, Sucha Singh summoned for some wise men of the village and warned Ghukkar to stop all that he was doing. But he refused. Finding his sister-in-law equally involved, Sucha Singh decided to solve it on by his own. 

The name soorma (warrior) is attached to his name because of his good deeds before and after the assassination of her sister-in-law, best friend and the intruder who set the relation of Balveero and Ghukkar.
