(Late Jaswant Singh Khalra was human rights activist
who was working on the abduction, elimination and cremation of unclaimed human bodies during the disturbed period. While working on these and even searching for some of missing colleagues, he discovered files from the municipal corporation of Amritsar which contained name, age, addresses of those who were killed and burnt by police. He also finds some others files revealing the cases of three other districts, increasing the list of thousands. He asserted that over 25,000 Sikhs were illegally killed and cremated by the state and many families are still waiting to hear news about their missing loved ones. In 1995, he was abducted and murdered by personnel of Punjab police but police denied of arresting or detaining him and claimed that they have no idea of his whereabouts.)
